LGBTQ+ History Month:
Honoring Our History. Building What's Next.

LGBTQ+ History Month has always been about people.

The people who came before us and made space where none existed. The people who stood beside us as allies and advocates. The people who helped us find community, confidence, and a sense of belonging when we needed it most.

When I think about LEAGUE, I don't immediately think about milestones or accomplishments. I think about people. I think about the friendships formed, the support offered during difficult moments, the mentors and allies who showed up when it mattered, and the sense of community that has touched so many lives over the years.

As LEAGUE recognizes LGBTQ+ History Month this October, I've been reflecting on the many stories that make up our community's history. Some are well known. Most are not.

They're the stories of colleagues who chose authenticity when it wasn't easy. Mentors who opened doors. Allies who spoke up. Friends who reminded us we weren't alone. They're the moments, both large and small, that helped shape who we are today.

As we look ahead to LEAGUE's Ruby Jubilee in 2027 and celebrate 40 years of community, advocacy, connection, and leadership, those stories feel especially important.

Founded in 1987, LEAGUE has been part of an extraordinary journey. For nearly four decades, employees, allies, and leaders have helped build a community where LGBTQ+ people can connect, support one another, and contribute fully as themselves. That legacy belongs to all of us.

Throughout October, we'll be sharing reflections on LGBTQ+ history, visibility, resilience, allyship, and belonging. We'll honor those who helped create progress, recognize the work that continues today, and celebrate the countless individuals whose impact may never appear in a history book but has made a lasting difference in someone's life.

I'd also love to hear from you.

Did LEAGUE help you find community?

Is there a mentor, colleague, leader, or ally who changed the course of your career? Is there a moment that helped you feel seen, supported, or valued?

Your story matters.

Because history isn't only about looking back. It's about understanding how we arrived here and inspiring what comes next.

Honoring our history. Building what's next. Together.
