For many in the LGBTQ+ community, the holidays can bring both joy and stress, especially when we’re navigating family gatherings or social events where our identities might not be fully understood or affirmed. Setting boundaries and prioritizing our own comfort is key—whether that means planning supportive check-ins with friends, stepping out for breaks, or deciding in advance how to respond to tough questions. The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) offers a range of tips on self-care, boundary-setting, and finding affirming spaces during the holiday season.
Allies can help make the holidays more inclusive by listening, learning, and stepping up when needed—using correct names and pronouns, and helping to defuse tense situations. Our community is always here to support one another, and there are plenty of resources to reach out to if you need, to help make this season as joyful and affirming as possible. If you need additional support, please check our Resources pages here and here for more information.
