No Name-Calling Week, observed annually beginning January 19th, is a powerful reminder of our commitment to creating spaces free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination. While it began as an initiative to support LGBTQ+ youth, its message resonates across all ages: words matter, and respect is the foundation of true inclusion.

Within our community, many of us know firsthand the harm that name-calling and verbal harassment can cause—not just in school, but in workplaces, families, and public life. This week, let’s recommit to challenging derogatory language wherever we encounter it, and to uplifting one another with kindness, affirmation, and support. GLAAD offers resources for understanding the impact of language and for empowering us all to speak out against bias.

We also encourage everyone to reflect on the language we use every day. Small changes—like using correct pronouns and chosen names—can make a huge difference in someone’s sense of belonging and self-worth. Let’s celebrate No Name-Calling Week by modeling respect, compassion, and the kind of fierce allyship that makes our community stronger.
