From Microbiology Studies to Pre-Law, the LEAGUE Foundation is helping make college a reality for 13 students beginning their studies this fall.
The LEAGUE Foundation awarded a total of 13 new college scholarships for the 2024-2025 school year. As one of the nation’s oldest LGBTQ scholarship programs, the LEAGUE Foundation has awarded a total of 233 college scholarships since 1996. The Foundation provides financial resources for U.S.-based LGBTQ youth to attend institutions of higher learning.
“I am incredibly grateful to the League Foundation to be awarded the Matthew Shepard Memorial Scholarship,” said Akiko Kono, who was awarded $3,000. “Attending Georgetown has been my dream since elementary school, and I’m so excited to spend the next four years working towards a major in Science, Technology, and International Affairs.”
Additional LEAGUE Foundation Memorial Scholarships awardees in the amount of $3,000 each are:
• Laurel Hester Memorial Scholarship awarded to Parker Mawer, attending Oregon State University
• Frank Duracher Memorial Scholarship awarded to Myles Chapman, attending Morehouse College
• Tyler Clementi Memorial Scholarship awarded to Allura Jules, attending Pace University
“These funds from the LEAGUE Foundation will help send me to my first year at UC Santa Cruz, studying microbiology,” said Xander Black, who received a $2,000 scholarship. “I intend on going into pharmaceutical research and bringing more diversity to the scientific field as a transgender man.”

• Maia Flores, attending the University of Texas at Austin
